“Peak beard” editorials and hairless naysayers continue to be proven incorrect as kiwi men, and men globally, continue to rock the facial hair.
The pundits identify five key reasons why the rise of the beard is more than just a trend.
1# Beards are in a man’s DNA
There is a growing belief this time that beards aren’t just a trend. Instead beards are recognised as something built into a man’s DNA, and a natural part of men. With social media and an entire beard care industry countering the shaving industry, the beard grooming revolution is bedding in the world over.
2# Beard Trimmers replacing the razor
With a steady 8% decline in the number of men shaving over the past 5 years, many men are ditching the razor and using beard trimmers instead.
3# Loving the Luxury
Having a beard has opened up a whole world of grooming that most men never new existed, from hot towel treatments to balms and beard oils scented with tea tree, citrus and tobacco. Barbershops are on the rise and men are loving the return of a genuine man zone.
4# Bring on the Beard Oil and Barber
There is a bit of a revolution going on in beard grooming the world over. Male grooming is a huge business and now men have any number of beard oils, beard balms and beard conditioners to rock the beard in ways our father’s never could.
5# Less tribal than prior trends
The longevity of the modern bed could be directly linked to how much less tribal we are in this millennium. It no longer is that much of a statement in 2016 to grow a beard. Rather, it’s just something that men like, not least the shameless machismo inherent in the process.
